Display flex fields in XPS filter dialog boxes

After you have configured N4 flex fields (also known as user-validated fields) (on page 1) in XPS, you can edit the SPARCS Settings.txt file to add these fields to any of the dialog boxes in the following table. The table also identifies the path to open the dialog box and the relevant setting to configure.

The following procedure involves editing XPS configuration files. Typically, Navis Professional Services personnel configure these files for your site. If you do this by yourself, make sure you create backup files before you make any changes and always test your changes in a test system first.

To add a user-validated field to a filter dialog box:

  1. In the xps\data folder, find the SPARCS Settings.txt file and open it in a text editor.

For an overview of the SPARCS Settings.txt file, see SPARCS Settings.txt file in Navis N4: Setup, Maintenance, and System Diagnostics Guide.

  1. In the #SETTINGS section, add the user-validated field to the setting that makes the field available in the required dialog box.

For example, to add the field to the right column of the Container Find Filter Edit dialog box, you would edit the respective row in the settings file as follows:

CNFNDR  Y  ISHZ ISRF ISFL ISOG ISPL ISDM MPRI BXST USC1 ...

  1. Restart XPS.

Any changes you make to the SPARCS Settings.txt file only take effect after you restart the application.

Restarting XPS requires that you stop operations. Carefully schedule the time to minimize disruptions.

  1. Open a filter dialog box to verify your changes.

The following figure shows USC1 as Fragility field in the Container Find Filter Edit dialog box, along with the list of values that opens when you click the list icon .
